The Ginsberg Center recently matched University of Michigan students with a service opportunity at Cranbrook Tower Apartments, an affordable senior housing complex in Ann Arbor.

Cranbrook Tower Apartments was seeking to provide residents with intercultural workshops such as language workshops, presentations and other sessions. The housing center hoped to provide residents from different cultural backgrounds with opportunities to connect with their fellow residents around their varying histories.

The Ginsberg Center connected the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts’ Language Resource Center (LRC) with the housing complex. LRC is a computer lab, library and study and meeting space for world language materials. LRC volunteers arranged for students to provide the requested workshops.

The sessions the students provided included a presentation on the Chinese Spring Festival and a Japanese language workshop. Staff from the housing center said they were thrilled with the offerings and that the residents thoroughly enjoyed the workshops.
