The Ginsberg Center Student Advisory Board provides guidance, support, and feedback that advances the work of the Ginsberg Center and broader community engagement at the University of Michigan. This year, the Center welcomed 13 graduate and undergraduate students who worked on a variety of initiatives, including:

  • Providing feedback on the student organization space at the new Ginsberg Center building
  • Reviewing and granting $15,000 to 25 student organizations doing community engagement work and alternative breaks
  • Co-sponsoring events during the National Lawyers Guild Abolition Week around topics of mass incarceration, public defense, and restorative justice

During weekly meetings, members of our Student Advisory Board received leadership training on how to engage in coaching conversations, they learned about community partnerships and the Ginsberg Matchmaking process and hosted a session on having conversations about social change topics. Between monthly meetings, sub-groups met to explore programming ideas for our new building, shared their perspectives on outreach and engagement, and gave their insights into student organization grant applications.

“So far, Ginsberg has been an excellent source of finding good in my everyday community. The Student Advisory Board has enabled me to see into small pockets of joy and social cohesion throughout the Michigan fabric. I find myself continually in awe at the beauty that everyone is capable of making when they find a passion. As a board, we are also becoming a lot closer, which I dearly love because everyone here is so wonderful and it’s so nice getting to know who you are working with and the good we are all promoting!” (Ty Anderson, Class of 2027).
