The Ginsberg Center, Where Campus Meets Community
At U-M, students gain more than exceptional classroom learning; they experience a world of growth and discovery outside the classroom. Over the decades the Ginsberg Center has developed a national reputation for preeminence in community engagement work, built on Edward Ginsberg's lifelong commitment to community service and civic leadership. Each year, the Center works with the U-M community to bring benefit to communities beyond campus.
Your gift is crucial for supporting our work.
TOGETHER WE CAN
Empower students to become thoughtful community leaders by creating spaces and opportunities for meaningful engagement—where every partner’s voice is valued and where collaboration, respect, and shared purpose guide all of our work.
Ignite a commitment to community impact in U-M students by providing the support, training, and real-world experiences they need to work alongside local partners, understand community priorities, and help move important projects forward.
Strengthen partnerships to advance community-identified goals, deepen trust, and build long-term collaborations that create measurable, lasting change.
OUR GIVING PRIORITIES
1. Student Experience Funding: Student Experience funds assist students in identifying meaningful partnerships, preparing for community involvement, and fostering a commitment to serving others. These funds support both program development to create experiences and individual students as they apply their skills in the community.
2. Community Engagement Funding: The Center supports non-profits, grassroots organizations, schools, and government agencies interested in engaging with U-M. Whether an organization is looking for summer interns, would like assistance in evaluating its work, has a research question to explore, or needs to learn about resources at the university, the Ginsberg Center partners with organizations to develop or strengthen its connections with U-M.
3. Academic Connection Funding: The Center is connected to the Office of the Provost, facilitating collaboration with educators and researchers within the 19 schools and colleges. The Ginsberg Center helps academic partners connect their teaching, research, and scholarship to local communities through faculty development, partnership support, and other critical services.
4. Interior room namings in the Edward and Rosalie Ginsberg Building allow donors to make a lasting impact while advancing the Center’s mission to embed community engagement in a Michigan education.
Naming gifts may support the Ginsberg Center Endowment, ensuring service-learning and community partnerships endure for generations, or the Ginsberg Center Student Support Fund, which provides paid service internships, community leadership opportunities, and scholarships that remove financial barriers for students.
5. Endowing the Directorship: Honoring the Ginsberg Center’s legacy of transforming student learning, building nonprofit capacity, and advancing the academic mission of the University, this endowment would bring honor and distinction to the Edward Ginsberg Center’s director position. The named endowment would provide recognition and critical funding for the director as they cultivate students, lead the professional team, build our network of experts within the University, partner with the community, and strengthen the field.
