Ribbon Cutting commemorates opening of Edward & Rosalie Ginsberg Building

The Edward & Rosalie Ginsberg Building, a 2 story building with many windows and wood portico on the corner of E University and Hill St

On September 11, 2025, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the official opening of the new Edward and Rosalie Ginsberg building at 1024 Hill St. A $10 million gift from longtime U-M supporters William and Inger Ginsberg made the building possible and served as a tribute to William’s parents, Edward and Rosalie Ginsberg, who were committed to community service throughout their lives.

Campus leaders, including President Domenico Grasso, Provost Laurie McCauley, Regent Michael Behm, and Vice President Martino Harmon, offered remarks celebrating the Ginsberg family's generosity and the values, people, and work of the Ginsberg Center.  Center Director Neeraja Aravamudan offered appreciation for the many people and units who brought the building to life while imagining the many future possibilities our new space will allow.  Ginsberg Faculty Affiliate Rona Carter (Associate Professor of Psychology), Elana Goldenkoff (U-M Alum of the Kinesiology PhD program who worked as a Ginsberg Graduate Consultant), and Wyatt McColough ( current U-M undergraduate and Ginsberg Community Leadership Fellow), described the many ways they have worked with the Center and benefited from the people and support they have received.  The remarks all shared a theme of celebration and appreciation for the past, present and future of the Center.

We are so grateful to the following partners who made this building come to life:

  • SmithGroup for the building design that is functional, sustainable and stunning!

  • Demaria Construction Firm for creating the structure and all the details that went into making the building net-zero ready.

  • The Division of Student Life, particularly Student Life Leadership, for their support, especially:

    • Heidi Jessel, Mark Burrows, Alicia Marting, from Student Life Development

    • John Healy, Robert Yurk and the Architecture, Engineering and Construction team for stewarding the building process

    • Jennifer Catalano and her team for the beautiful interior design that is intentional, flexible and warm

We welcome you to come and see the space for yourself at our Open House from 1-5 pm on September 26!
