Connect2Community: Service Opportunities

Column 1

Connect2Community is an online portal that connects University of Michigan students, staff, and faculty to engagement opportunities with non-profits, schools and other community agencies. Community partners throughout Southeast Michigan post a variety of service opportunities for groups and individuals that range from one-time to long-term commitments. Individual students, student groups, and U-M affiliates can search for opportunities most suited to them by interest, date, phrase, distance and more.

Connect2Community is managed by the Ginsberg Center, in collaboration with the United Way of Washtenaw County and Eastern Michigan University.

For our partners located inside Washtenaw County that are looking to recruit volunteers, we recommend signing up on the United Way of Washtenaw County’s volunteer portal, VolunteerWashtenaw.org. Through a partnership with the United Way of Washtenaw County, all opportunities posted on VolunteerWashtenaw are automatically shared on both Connect2Community and EMU’s volunteer portal, VolunteerConnection, so you’ll be reaching three audiences with one post! If you ONLY want to recruit student volunteers, please head to the “Located Outside of Washtenaw County” section for help signing up right on Connect2Community.

VolunteerWashtenaw has 1000s of visits a month, and your agency can post volunteer and in-kind opportunities of all sorts: ongoing, one-time, physical labor, groups, and more. Volunteers then sign up for opportunities through the site (and an email is generated to you) or they can reach out directly via phone or email address that you provide.

If you'd like to post your volunteer opportunities on VolunteerWashtenaw,

If you already have an account:

  • If it’s been awhile since you’ve logged into your agency’s profile, think about updating it!
  • If you have a volunteer opportunity you would like to post, here’s a refresher on how to do that
  • Contact [email protected] if you are new to your organization and need access to your agency’s profile.

Community partners from across Southeast Michigan can post a variety of service opportunities on Connect2Community.umich.edu that range from one-time to long-term commitments. Students, student groups, and other U-M affiliates can search and sign-up for opportunities through the site (and an email is generated to you), or they can reach out to you directly via phone or email address that you provide.

Additionally, through our partnership with EMU’s VISION Volunteer Center, all opportunities posted on Connect2Community automatically flow onto EMU’s portal, VolunteerConnection for their students as well. At Ginsberg, we use the portal to promote engagement opportunities (sometimes single opportunities, sometimes categories) via social media, email, and directly to students or student groups.
