Registering to Drive
If you are in an program or student organization that has a contract to drive Ginsberg vehicles, you will receive an email with instructions for registering. If you believe you are eligible to drive but have not received the email, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registering to drive is a two-step process.
Step 1. Register with Parking and Transportation Services Using the Emailed Instructions
Before driving a University vehicle, all drivers must first be approved by UM Parking and Transportation Services. You can register for a Ginsberg vehicle by carefully following the instructions that are emailed to all eligible drivers. To gain approval from University Transportation Services, you must have a valid U.S. or International driver's license, only a limited number of points on your driving record and a history including only a limited number of accidents. If your license is not from Michigan, be sure to leave extra time for your registration to be processed. The approval process generally takes 3-5 days. It is your responsibility to register in advance -- we cannot give you a vehicle before you are approved.
Note that you must complete the driver registration process once per academic year.
Step 2. Agree to the Terms & Conditions in the Ginsberg Transportation System
Once you are approved by PTS, you can go to the Ginsberg Transportation System (ginsberg.umich.edu/transportation/t-rex) and agree to the Terms and Conditions. Once you have done so, you will be able to make reservations at that same URL.
Requesting a Vehicle Through Our Online System
Once you have been approved, you can log into to the transportation system to request a vehicle for your work with your program or organization. Make your request as far in advance as possible, and at least 48 hours before your project date.
Note that Ginsberg vehicles are not for personal use.
Refuel the Car Before Returning It
If your gas tank is less than half full, take your vehicle to Fleet Services (map) and refuel before returning it.
Return the keys to the Ginsberg Center front desk
If the Ginsberg Center is closed by the time you get back, you should return the keys at 8am the next morning.
