Site Leader Expectations

Site Leaders are instrumental to a successful PWST experience. Site leaders are at the core of creating a cohesive site group, facilitating reflection and dialogue, and act as the liaison between participants and the Lead Team.

Responsibilities and Expectations

General

  • Creating and maintaining a positive and productive site group dynamic
  • Emergency contact and project facilitation at site

Education

  • Attend Site Leader Training (date TBA)
  • Attend all bi-weekly E&T meetings during Fall and Winter semesters
  • During Winter semester, plan a pre-break service activity and lead post-activity reflection
  • Facilitate daily reflection sessions while on trip and trip evaluations
  • Plan at least 1 reflection/reorientation meeting for your participants after your trip
  • Develop necessary leadership skills over the course of the year (communication, flexibility, accountability, conflict resolution)
  • Educate yourself on the trip issue area and other related areas, such as community awareness and entering/exiting communities

Finance

  • Organize a small group to help research and write grant proposals to 6-10 foundations
  • Provide two copies of each receipt plus the original for any charges made to SOAS account
  • Work closely with lead team finance to access SAOS account
  • Direct donors to lead team finance for proper documentation for tax deduction status and to record gifts into budget

Fundraising

  • Establish fundraising goals to meet budget
  • Organize and implement group fundraising events including one large event
  • Work closely with lead team for ideas and fundraising procedures

PR

  • Organize chalking/flyering/promoting of PWST events throughout campus and the community
  • Coordinate making signs or wearing something PWST for smaller events

Site Development

  • Maintain contact throughout the year with site through emails and international calls
  • Make sure all participants get vaccinations and travel insurance on time

Alcohol and drug use and possession on any UM-PWST trip is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN due to University policy, liability and legal issues, respect for the members of your group, and most importantly the individuals and organizations with whom we are working during the summer break. If you are found with alcohol or drugs, you will immediately be asked to leave your group and travel home at your own expense.
