How can I contact the Transportation Coordinator?

When should I request a Ginsberg Center vehicle?

  • Vehicle Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance; a week in advance if you need a weekend vehicle OR have a group of 8 or more. 

Will I always get a vehicle if I request one?

  • We try to accommodate all appropriate requests. Sometimes it is impossible to grant a request because no cars are available. In that case we will work with you and other students with whom you might carpool.  Additionally, You are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Activities and Leadership (SAL); SAL has a process in place to help your organization reserve a University vehicle. Who may request a Ginsberg Center vehicle?

  • Only those students and staff involved with America Reads, SERVE, Project Community, or MCSP, are eligible to use Ginsberg Center vehicles. Make sure only one person makes a vehicle request for your group.

May I request a Ginsberg Center vehicle for a conference or retreat?

  • Requests for travel to a conference or retreat, or to pick up guest speakers, etc., will not be granted.

Who may drive a Ginsberg Center vehicle?

  • Only drivers named on the Vehicle Request form. All drivers must have completed a Driver Registration Form, read and signed a Driver Contract/Key Requisition Form and we must have a copy of their driver's license on file.

Who can be a passenger in a Ginsberg Center vehicle?

  • Only other persons in your group or affiliated with your program may ride in a Ginsberg Center vehicle. Non-University persons are prohbited.

Where can I drive a Ginsberg Center vehicle?

  • Only to and from the location designated by your program coordinator or group leader.

Can I drive by myself?

  • Please carpool whenever possible. If necessary, you may be assigned to carpool with someone else. You will receive that person's name and contact information with your approval of your vehicle request. It is your responsibility to arrange a meeting place and time.

Where can I park?

  • If you are dropping off a vehicle, please park it in the Hill street parking structure, across from Ginsberg. You may park in any UM parking space EXCEPT Gold Permit, UM Service Vehicle, or Handicap spaces. You MAY park in UM Business Vehicle spaces. If there are absolutely no spaces available, you may try the Church St. structure.

Does the University pay for parking tickets or moving violations?

  • NO! You are responsible for all tickets AND towing fees!

How do I change my schedule?

  • If you need to change your schedule please fill out a new Vehicle Request Form making sure to clearly indicate the changes.

Where do I get gas?

  • If you are driving a vehicle as part of a Center program, please do not buy gas; you may fill up the vehicles at Transportation Services. There are directions to Transportation in your car's binder.

    Do not return the car empty! There must be at least a half tank of gas in the car when you return it.

Can I drive in bad weather?

  • If the weather conditions are very bad, call the Transportation Coordinator before you come to pick up your vehicle (763-3548). If we decide weather conditions are too bad we will cancel all vehicle use. It is your responsibility to inform your site contact that you will not be coming in. Please listen for school closings on the radio.

What do I do if I'm sick?

  • It is your responsibility to contact your service contact, and the Transportation Coordinator, if you will not be coming in. If you are carpooling with others you need to inform them as well. If you can't get a hold of the others in your group you may call or e-mail the Transportation Coordinator and leave a message.

Can I smoke in a Ginsberg Center vehicle?

  • NO! No smoking!

What happens if I don't follow the rules?

  • Driving a University Vehicle is a privilege not a right! If you fail to follow any of the Ginsberg Center or Transportation Services vehicle use rules you may lose your driving privileges!
