Insurance Coverage:

The cars that we lease are covered by a broad university insurance policy, which includes coverage for personal liability, property damage, and collision. Drivers 18 years or older with valid licenses, and authorized by us, may use the vehicles for University-related matters only. Understand that you are covered to drive to and from your service or university-authorized destination only; you are not covered in a convenience store parking lot!

In case of accident, the Accident Report Form must be filled out. Accidents are covered under the University's policy. In the case of an accident without injury to human beings, the University has a $250 deductible for collision, which the Center will cover. The state of Michigan is governed by a no-fault insurance law. In case of accident with human injury, each party's own personal (auto/health) insurance is the primary coverage. If a student has no personal auto coverage, the University's policy will apply. Private vehicles are covered by personal automobile insurance only. Passengers in private vehicles are also covered by the personal auto insurance. University insurance does not cover liability for non-students being transported. The only way you can transport non-University persons is if you are covered for liability as a volunteer under the volunteer insurance of the agency where you are serving.
