Description      

Up to two $2,900 scholarships will be awarded this year to support University of Michigan students achieving junior or senior standing by next fall who demonstrate a commitment to community service or social action and who need financial assistance.  Preference is given to students from Cuyahoga County, Ohio; thereafter to students from Ohio; and thereafter to any student.  Inger and William Ginsberg established the Rosalie Ginsberg Community Service Scholarship Fund in honor of William’s mother.

 

Criteria                          

Scholarship candidates must demonstrate strong community service or social action involvement, as well as financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

 

Eligibility                     

Scholarships are awarded to students who have attained junior or senior standing by the following fall semester and will be enrolled full time in an undergraduate program on the Ann Arbor campus during the next academic year.

 

Application Requirements

Students interested in applying for this scholarship must submit:

  1. The attached scholarship application, which includes an authorization to release FAFSA information about your financial aid eligibility from the Office of Financial Aid to the Ginsberg Center.
  2. A statement describing your community involvement(s) while at the University of Michigan, roles you’ve assumed, duration of (each) involvement, and anything else that would be helpful for the selection committee.
  3. A 250-500 word essay on “Why I am involved in the community.”
  4. A support letter from a community-based agency at which you have served, on their letterhead, indicating the duration and quality of your involvement, and your accomplishments.
  5. A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming school year.  Be sure to request that the FAFSA be sent to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (Federal School Code 002325).  Copies of the FAFSA are available from the U-M Office of Financial Aid or you may complete it online at www.fafsa.ed.gov

 

 

Deadline                      

The scholarship application, 250-500 word essay, summary of community involvement, support letter, and authorization to release financial aid eligibility information from the Office of Financial Aid to the Ginsberg Center must be submitted by September 30, 2009 to:

Notification                 

Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than October 20, 2009

 

Scholarship Recipients Are Expected To:   

 

Renewability

Scholarship is for one academic year only.  Scholarship recipients may not re-apply.
