Community OrganizationsThe Edward Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning was established to enable students and faculty members to combine community service and academic learning to promote civic participation, build community capacity, and enhance the educational experience. The Center is home to seven service-learning courses and programs with approximately 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students participating each year. The Ginsberg Center wishes to communicate, partner, and collaborate with local community-based organizations to strengthen community capacity and address the needs of communities in Southeastern Michigan, nationally, and internationally. There are various ways in which a community can reach students through the Ginsberg Center. The center posts volunteer opportunities, connects community partners to service-learning courses, and assists community partners in forming on-going partnerships with student organizations and other U-M entities. The Ginsberg Center coordinates large multi-section service learning courses and on-going student programs that partner with many community organizations. Additionally, the Ginsberg Center hopes to provide community partners with resources and trainings that help community organizations work with volunteers and to serve as a bridge between community partners and other university departments. For information on community partner initiatives, please contact Kourtney Neloms, Community Partnerships Coordinator, at kdn@umich.edu
