Bio

Hawa oversees the Ginsberg Center's collaboration with Community Partners, with a focus on fostering sustained engagement and establishing partnerships between the University of Michigan and various organizations and individuals within the communities of southeast Michigan. A significant aspect of her responsibilities involves evaluating needs, convening stakeholders, and facilitating connections to ensure timely and impactful engagements between the local organizations and the diverse resources available at the University of Michigan, including courses, research initiatives, and student organizations. Additionally, she actively promotes student, faculty, and community involvement in utilizing the resources offered by the Ginsberg Center.

 

Hawa earned a Bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. Before joining the Ginsberg Center, she dedicated time to advocating for political and social justice, engaging in community organizing, and promoting mental health awareness in her local community. Her professional background includes supporting children and adolescents facing mental health obstacles, participating in community initiatives focused on racial justice and immigrant rights. Through collaboration with various community organizations in Metro Detroit, Hawa has gained valuable insights and experiences. She is committed to creating safe, affirming, and empowering spaces that prioritize compassion and authenticity, all while approaching her work through a social justice perspective.

 

In her spare time Hawa enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, writing poetry,  spending time with family and friends exploring southeast Michigan!
